Getting a new puppy is probably one of the most memorable moments that you will experience from your bond together. It's like having this little “toy” come alive and not know where to go or what to do. You can watch them for hours as they move around and check out their environment in such a cute and entertaining fashion.
By spending a lot of time alone with your new puppy you will slowly start to create a bond with him which will build a connection that will last a lifetime. One of the first things that you will want to engage in when it comes to training your puppy is to get him to follow you from room to room around the house.
When you walk away from your puppy and he begins to crawl in the direction that your feet are going, start repetitively speaking the words “Come, Let's Go”. Move quickly yet be sure that he can still see where you're going.
When you approach a corner which leads out of the room, stop and make sure he is still following you and keep repeating the words “Come, Let's Go”. Of course the puppy's natural instinct is to follow in your direction, and what you're doing now is training him to associate the words “Come, Let's Go” with coming toward you when called.
If you happen to live in a large building in the city, and have the advantage of long hallways that run through your complex, be sure to have fun with these long corridors by running away and stopping a larger distance to see if your puppy will follow you with his new command. Once he loses you from his view, you can test how well he understands the command by loudly saying “Come, Let's Go”. If he starts to move in your direction – congratulations – you've got a winner on your hands! He should prove to be an easily trained dog as he grows into an adult.
